Obituary for Susan Catherine Lease (Craun)

Susan “Susie” Catherine Lease, age 68, of Riverdale, MD died on July 14, 2023 at Doey’s House Hospice Center surrounded by her family. She was born on December 15, 1954 in Washington, DC to the late James Odie Craun and Helen Marie (Reedy) Craun.

Susie was a 1972 graduate of Bladensburg High School and worked for many years at the Maryland State Department of Health as a Secretary, but her favorite job was raising her children and taking care of her family.

Susie was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Rainier, MD

Susie was the beloved wife of 48 years of Steve Eugene Lease, Sr., loving and devoted mother of Steven “Stevie” Eugene Lease, Jr. and his wife Jessica of Hagerstown, MD, Helen Marie Clarke of Perryville, MD and Shane Christopher Lease and his wife Jenny of Columbia, MD, proud grandmother of Angel, Tristan, Chloe, Adrian, Natalie, Jake, Lucas and Cecilia, sister of Jim Craun and his wife, Patti of Hudson, Fl.

Susie and her husband Steve owned “Susie and Steve’s Lawn Care Service” where they volunteered their time and talents to taking care of the lawns of senior citizens in their area.

Susie loved music and exercising, biking at least 20 miles a day, seven days a week, saying that it was her “therapy”. She rewarded herself with her favorite drink, a caramel frappuccino from Dunkin Donuts. She was a “dogaholic” and adored her grandpuppies, Riley, Luna and Star.

We wanted to reach out and invite you to a special event we are hosting in honor of our dear friend, mom and wife, Susie. We would be honored if you could join us in celebrating her life at the Vansville Community Center.

A Life Celebration Service will take place on Sunday, August 27th from 12:00-4:00 pm at the Vansville Community Center, located at 6813 Ammendale Road in Beltsville, MD. We have organized a gathering that will include food, drinks, music, and games for everyone to enjoy.

As you know, Susie touched the lives of many with her vibrant personality and kindness. We would love for you to bring your best stories and memories of Susie to share with us. This will be an opportunity to reminisce and honor her in a way that truly captures her spirit.

We hope you can make it to the celebration and help us send Susie off in style. We believe that coming together as a community will bring comfort during this difficult time.

We look forward to seeing you at the Vansville Community Center.
