Nathaniel “Nathan” McCray Jr., 73, of Shepherdstown, passed away Thursday morning, March 16, 2023, at Hospice of the Panhandle following a short illness. Born in Sumpter, SC, May 21, 1949 and raised in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Nathaniel (Sr) and Catherine (Mahoney) McCray-Young. After years of Federal service, Nathan decided to act on his entrepreneurial spirit and form “Nathan’s Magic Wand” carpet cleaning business, along with his wife Brenda. He was very proud of owning his own business and especially enjoyed meeting people.

Surviving are his loving wife of 42 years, the former Brenda Costley Irby; Preceded in death by one son, Antonio McCray; three daughters, LeChaun McCray, Chanel McCray, Charlene McCray; one step-son, James Irby; ten grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Sanders; two surviving aunts; one surviving uncle; and his loyal companion, Mocha McCray.
