Juanita A. Maloney, age 78, died on March 6, 2022, at her home. She was born on November 20, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, PA, to the late Joseph and Eleanor (Keill) Andras.
Juanita moved to Baltimore, where she met her husband, Matthew F. Maloney, working for the B&O railroad. In the late ’70s, they moved to Hagerstown, where they joined St. Mary Catholic Church. After working there for 26 years, Juanita retired from Citicorp as a customer service representative.
Juanita worked as a teacher’s aide at St. Mary Catholic School and volunteered as a CCD teacher and later as an office assistant and was the Secretary for the CCD executive board. Additionally, Juanita was the host for the Radio Mass on WJEJ and lectured masses regularly for 40 years at St. Mary Catholic Church. In 2020, Juanita became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Halfway and continued to serve the church as a lector at the 10:15 mass.
Juanita was an avid animal lover was always known for caring for a menagerie of pets. She was always referred to as fun, feisty, and fashionable by old friends and those who had just met her.
In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death in 1981 by her beloved husband, Matthew.
Juanita is the loving and devoted mother of Teresa Eleanor Maloney-Smith and her husband, Richard Alan Smith of Hagerstown, and the proud grandmother of Aria Maloney Smith.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 13th from 4pm-6pm at Harman Funeral Home, 305 North Potomac St., Hagerstown, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 14th at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 17630 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, with Fr. Angel Marrero officiating.
