Obituary for Johnnie Mae Pernell (McCray)
Johnnie M. Pernell, age 65, died, Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:37am at Johns Hopkins Hospital after a long battle against cancer. She was born on September 27, 1956 in Louisiana to the late John McCray and Martha Jones.
Johnnie had just moved to Pennsylvania after residing in Maryland for over 20 years.
In 1986, Johnnie graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and later became a certified psychiatric nurse. In 2009, she had to retire due to her illness.
Johnnie enjoyed entertaining and regularly hosted parties where she shared games that she either invented or adapted. She was involved in multiple book clubs and bible studies. Reading, crafting and writing were her favorite hobbies.
Johnnie is survived by her cherished daughter, Courtney Faokunla and her husband Olumide, of Waynesboro, PA and much loved and bragged about grandchildren, Kole, Kunle and Kemi Faokunla. She is also mourned by many in her extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 7th at 1:00pm at Harman Funeral Home, 305 North Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD, with Elder Michael Reis officiating. Interment will be private.
