Obituary for Jerry Bernard "J.B." Barr
Jerry B. “J.B.” Barr, resident of Charles Town, WV passed away on Thursday April 6, 2023 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility in Kearneysville, WV. JB was born in Ranson, WV on June 10, 1953 to the late Paul E. Barr and Barbara Ann (White) Barr.
JB attended Wright Denny Grade School, and graduated from Frederick High School, class of 1971. He also attended FCC, and had a degree in Fire Science and Safety Technology from Shepherd College. He then took numerous courses in fire and rescue from the University of Maryland and West Virginia University, while also accomplishing a Mortuary Science Degree from Catonsville Community College in Catonsville, MD. JB was a licensed embalmer and funeral director. He was also a member of the Life Member Independent Fire Company,
Charles Town/Ranson where he served as Lieutenant and First Safety Officer. He was a life member of the Independent Hose Co. #1, Frederick, MD, and a member of the Citizens Truck Company of Frederick. He was a recipient of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Valor Award for The Miller Chemical Fire Charter and was a First Squadron Commander of The Son’s of the American Legion Post 71 in Charles Town, WV. JB was a member and past President of the Eastern Panhandle Funeral Directors Association and a member of the National and West Virginia Funeral Directors Associations. JB was also a member of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda D. (Stotler) Barr. Also surviving him are his sons, Kirk Cameron Barr and wife Lora, Justin Kyle Barr, and Jeremy Adam Barr and wife Eliza, as well as grandchildren, Caleb V. Barr, Leighton R. Barr, Brogann E. Barr and Owen S. Barr. His sister Martha M. (Marcie) Gaines and husband J. Gaines of Fort Pierce, FL survive him and brother, Paul E. (Gene) Barr Jr. and wife Gloria of Walkersville, MD as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding JB in death are his parents, Paul E. and Barbara Ann Barr and his sister, Anna Rae Brown.
The funeral arrangements are held with the Harman Funeral Home, P.A. 305 N Potomac St, Hagerstown, MD. A memorial service for JB will be held at 10:00am on Friday April 14, 2023 at the Charles Town Presbyterian Church, 220 E Washington St, Charles Town WV 25414 with Rev. John Bethard, Rev. Tim May and Dr. Henry Christie officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow at Edge Hill Cemetery, 604 Hunter St., Charles Town, WV 25414.
