Obituary for Elinor Gertrude Bell

Elinor G. Bell, died February 7, 2022, at the Doey’s House in Hagerstown.
She was born September 23, 1938, to Ruth McNeil in Baltimore, MD. She is survived by two nephews, Troy Jones and Trent Hayes of Baltimore, MD. Her adopted family was the faculty & staff of Northern Middle School when she was there.
She was a graduate of Coppin State University in Baltimore.
Elinor was an Educator, having taught all of her professional life at North Potomac Jr High, and its successor Northern Middle in Hagerstown. Most of the time she taught a culturally enriched, geography curriculum for Grade 7 but earlier had taught Art for grade 6.
Many will remember the presence of “Miss Bell” and how she motivated them to be their best and to strive.
She was devoted to her students and to her vocation. She won many awards and commendations, none of which she ever wanted acknowledged. She wanted the emphasis to be on the learner.
Elinor was active in the Washington County Teachers Association and was a tireless worker for the good of the classroom teacher.
She was a charter member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.
A Memorial Service is pending.
Memorial contributions can be sent in her name to Children in Need, Inc.
