Obituary for Edward Smith

Edward Louis Smith 85, born on March 8, 1937 of Hagerstown MD, was called home to glory by his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on May 12,2022.

He had always been fondly called Uncle Eddie by friends as well as family.
Uncle Eddie had been a long-term resident at Ravenwood Nursing Home for several years and had been lovingly adopted by the staff.

Uncle Eddie attended and graduated from the North Street School , the first secondary educational school for African Americans in Washington County. The school was later remodeled and renamed, "the Memorial Rec."
Uncle Eddie recognized early in life his desire to become a chef and his desire to want to help the military. Uncle Eddie began and enjoyed a lifelong career for over 40 years has a chef. He made a career of preparing home cooked meals for our military . Uncle Eddie also had the pleasure of working aboard various Navy ships, until his physical decline in 1995.

Uncle Eddie never married and didn't have any children. He was the 4th oldest of 10 children born to the late George and Gladys Smith. He is preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by the last living sibling , Shirley (Smith)Catoe. Heis also survived by a host of nieces, nephews , great nieces, and great nephews. Uncle Eddie was much loved and was adopted by many. He will be missed.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 10am to 12:00 noon at Harman Funeral Home, 305 North Potomac Street, Hagerstown, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon with Pastor Sharon Gibson officiating.
