Obituary for Dorothy Rose Raduazo (Raduazo)

Dorothy “Dot” Rose Raduazo was a caring wife, adoring mother, devoted grandmother, affectionate aunt and sister and dear friend to many. Dot’s love of life and people did not come to an end at her death. She passed away suddenly on March 3, 2023 at the age of 71, surrounded by her loved ones who will honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Dot was born the fifth child to Rosetta and Henry Raduazo on July 17, 1951 in Greenbelt, Maryland, and spent the rest of her childhood in Riverdale, Maryland. Although she was a middle child in a larger family, she was the oldest of the younger siblings, and as the older siblings grew up and left the household, Dot took on a motherly role, waking her younger siblings up for school, and getting them ready and fed for the day ahead. She attended
Bladensburg High School, and after high school, Dot traveled across the country as she started her family while her first spouse was working in the Navy. During her time abroad, Dot began her family with the birth of her son, Joe and daughter, Angelique. With her two children in tow, she explored the country throughout her travels from Bladensburg, MD to Bremerton, WA to Groton, CT to Virginia Beach before returning back to the Washington, DC area that she originally called home. Throughout all of her numerous stops, Dot enjoyed taking in the outdoors, basking in nature, spending time with family and finding time to develop her creative thoughts for her next project.

After she returned home, she began working over 40 years in various roles at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Prince George’s Hospital and Meritus Medical Center. While working at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Dot met Alem while working the night shift together, and the two quickly became friends. After years of friendship and courtship, they were married in 1987, and expanded their family with the addition of their two sons, Daniel and Sam. Throughout this phase of her life, Dot continued to be the compassionate mother she had already been for the last 20 years, but instead of just to her kids or her siblings, this time to her entire community. She began volunteering at Templeton Elementary while working at Prince George’s Hospital in the evenings, just to make sure the children got off to a good start in school. While helping out in the administrative office, Dot became a friendly, familiar face to everyone in the Riverdale neighborhood. She would selflessly provide anything from rides to a birthday cake for any of the kids in her neighborhood, just to bring a smile to their faces.
Dot’s pride was in loving and caring for her siblings and family. She cherished spending time with her family on the beach, hiking and camping trips, reading and exchanging novels, and partaking in every kind of arts and crafts project, especially quilting for all her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends of the family. As most of you may know, her favorite thing to do was to make handcrafted arts and crafts to put a smile on another person’s face. Whether it may be a quilt, an ornament, halloween costume, hats, gloves, scarfs or painting rocks with her sisters, she prided herself on doing things by hand and in her own way. Last, but certainly not least, Dot
spent a lot of her time playing cards with her family, such as scat, rummy, 10 to 1, spades, or any game for that matter, because it was not about the cards or games being played, but rather the conversations and time with people that she loved over endless pots of coffee. Of course, she won more games than she lost, but she did it with a smile.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Alem Teklemariam; her three sons, Joe Curry, Daniel and Samuel Teklemariam; her son-in-law Daniel Callahan II; her three brothers Eddie (Dorothy) Raduazo, Chas (Lettie) Raduazo, and Fred Raduazo; her four sisters Carol (Emilio) Prencipe, Ruth (Ed) Will, Sue (Jack) Rambo, and Sara Hutchings; her three grandchildren Daryl Curry, Dominique Jackson, and Daniel Callahan III in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Henry Raduazo; her mother, Rosetta Raduazo; her brother, Dickie Raduazo; her brother-in-law Bill Hutchings and her daughter,
Angelique Curry.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on March 18, 2023 at the Solid Rock Church, located at 5401 Good Luck Road, Riverdale, Maryland 20737. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Project Linus on her behalf at https://www.projectlinusfrederickmd.org/donate.html.
