Obituary for Betty Rebecca Layton

Betty (Rhodes) Layton
August 7th, 1945 – May 17th, 2022

Our dear mother Betty Rebecca (Rhodes) Layton, 76, of Dinwiddie, VA, sadly passed away on Tuesday May 17, 2022, after a short, but brave battle with cancer. She went peacefully while at her daughter's house in West Virginia, with her son and daughter by her side. She was a wonderful and loving mother who was always there when we needed her. She was very loved and will be terribly missed.

Betty was the daughter of the late Gertrude (Ruby) Williams and the late Sherman Williams, both of Bedford, PA. She was a seamstress for Everett Sewing factory in Everett, PA, for many years, before moving her family to Centerville/Cumberland Valley Township to care for her mother, where she also worked at Howe's Restaurant with her sisters for many years. She later met her loving husband (Billy Layton) and moved to Dinwiddie VA, where she resided for the past 20 years.

Betty is preceded in death by her late husband, Robert Lee Rhodes; and her siblings Alma (Williams) Rose, Deloris (Williams) Miller and Eddie Williams.

Betty is survived by siblings Norman Williams of Winchester VA, Charles Williams of Cumberland MD, and twins Ronald and Donald Williams, both of Bedford County PA, Husband Billy Layton, of Dinwiddie, VA, her Son Robert "Lynn" Rhodes, of Bedford/Centerville PA (and wife, Charlene), and daughter Sharon (Rhodes) Petrisko, of Kearneysville, WV, (and husband Don). Betty has 3 grandchildren, who she cherished and loved to spend time with: Corey Rhodes (and wife Emily), Travis Rhodes, and Kyle Petrisko. Betty is also survived by one great grandson, Dylan Rhodes, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Betty loved canning fresh vegetables from her garden, fishing with her husband and family, and meeting family members at the Hollywood Casino in Charles Town, WV, for a day of fun, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

In honor of her request, no formal services are planned. In her memory, please give to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or do an act of kindness for a friend or neighbor.

Romans 14:8 - For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.
